The Macallan Fine Oak 15yo, 43%

The nose is soft and honeyed, with peach, apricots. On the palate there are rich fruits including melon and peach, ginger barley, a wave of sweet spice and some oakiness. Spice, tannins and fruits are balanced in the finish. This is an excellently made whisky.

The Glenlivet 15yo French Oak Reserve, 40%

Sweet, rich nose with honey and vanilla with caramel. The palate is distinctive, spicy and very pleasant, with oak with toasted almonds and vanilla. Toasted almonds, pepper and oak dominate the finish.

 

Glendronach 15yo, 46%

Big, sherried nose, with chicory coffee, fresh figs, floral notes. All magnificent, with wisps of sulphur. The palate is sweet, with fruit cake, followed by a pepper surge, drying tannins and plummy smoke. Complex and intense, evolving. The finish is plummy with pepper and peat. Long.

 

BenRiach Madeira finish, 15-year-old 46%

A lively mix of melon, pear and vanilla on the nose, sweet and welcoming. The palate is clean and fresh, sweet lime cordial, milk chocolate and then some astringency, tannin and spice towards the end. The finish is very sweet, spicy and long.

BenRiach Tawny Port finish 15yo, 46%

Rich wine on the nose at first, then rosehip, chestnut, chicory coffee, candy. It’s all a bit odd. The palate is nicely balanced. Sweet and grapey, with icing sugar, clean barley and full soft fruit. The finish is long, sweet and spicy; chilli-laced icing sugar. Clean and ordered.

 

Balvenie Single Barrel 15yo 47.8%

The nose is fresh and clean, with Starburst and tutti fruitti ice cream. Quite perfumed. on the palate there’s a massive burst of lemon and lime, clean and sweet barley and vanilla, then some late icing sugar and spice. Very summery, very refreshing and very more-ish. The finish is sublime. Long, sweet and fruity with a late burst of spice.
